asker do you still have bells palsy? i got diagnosed on sunday and i was wondering how you are getting through it? do you tell people you meet, do you tell your friends when you see them? i dont know what to do it sucks so much i want my smile back! :(

Aw, you poor thing! I know the feeling obviously and I know how scary it is. I had a lot going on the week before i was diagnosed (awful headaches, an oral infection most likely from my wisdom tooth coming in and swelling) So waking up half paralyzed was just another add-on and I had no idea it was something serious. Did you run yourself to the doctor right away? I went straight to the doctor closest to my campus and i’m assuming that was what helped me get through it so fast. I actually ended up getting my smile back after about two weeks. I still notice that my eye doesn’t always close along with the other one, but i can’t complain about that part after such a quick recovery.

I did tell my friends, my family and strangers. It took me a few nights to actually be able to leave my room and feel comfortable being around people. But, i have a few very good friends and a great boyfriend who supported me and made me realize that I’ll be loved whether I can smile or not. Don’t be afraid to show yourself to the people who care about you; if they actually care that you look a little goofy then they aren’t true friends nor people you need in your life. I could tell when I laughed that people i didn’t know so much were looking at my mouth, so i did end up spitting it out to new people just to get it out there and feel a little less awkward. Eventually I just started laughing it off.

I obviously don’t know you but I have my fingers crossed for you girl, i know it’s terrifying. Luckily, the statistics show that it’s very rare that the condition will last longer than a few weeks to a few months. Do everything your doctor told you to (take the medication, tape your eye shut at night if it’s not closing, use drops/eye lubricants, etc.) I hope you show a fast recovery and get your smile back soon! I’m sure you look beautiful either way.
